Another round of snow is expected to occur from Tuesday night ending Wednesday afternoon. As precipitation moves in from the southwest pushing northeast through Illinois, snow will likely fall overnight Tuesday into Wednesday afternoon. Along with snow chances, warm air at the surface and aloft are forecast to work in overnight into Wednesday bringing a wintry mix of freezing rain and possibly sleet. Ice accumulations of less than 0.2 inches will be possible.
Overall, this system will last quite a while, but snow totals appear to favor light accumulations. Guidance suggests an average blend of 1-3 inches by Wednesday afternoon. Winds will increase Wednesday in the afternoon causing some concern for minor drifting and blowing snow.
