Our seasons first winter storm is on track to impact the area come late Friday afternoon and into the first part of Saturday.
A strengthening area of low pressure passing through the plains will move just to the south of the region putting ourĀ area under the risk of some heavy snowfall totals.
Rain is expected to begin by late Friday afternoon changing to all snow by the evening hours as temperatures fall below freezing. The snow initially will be wet and very heavy with moderate to heavy snowfall likely late Friday evening. Pavement temperatures remain quite warm so the snow will initially stick to grassy elevated surfaces first before accumulating on the streets once the heavier bands move in. The snow will eventually taper off by Saturday morning with increasing winds behind the system by Saturday afternoon.
Total accumulations will be 5-8″ locally with isolated higher amounts while just to the north 8″+ is likely. Any shift in storm track could still change these amounts, so stay tuned for updated forecasts through the day Friday.
Make sure and leave plenty of time to get to your destination if you are traveling late Friday evening and into Saturday morning.
