The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded our risk for severe thunderstorms later this evening to Slight (Level 2/5).
Timing: After 9pm this evening
Risks:
Tornadoes: Marginal
Large Hail: Marginal
Damaging Winds: Enhanced
Flash Flooding: Low
Thunderstorms are expected to develop to our west into parts of central Iowa later this afternoon and then evolve into a line segment that will reach the area later this evening between 9pm and midnight. Damaging straight-line winds over 60 MPH is the main threat expected with these storms as they progress towards the area, however these types of line segments can also produce isolated tornadoes along the leading edges with very little advanced warning.
These storms will be moving at a very rapid pace leaving little time to act should a warning be issued. Make sure and stay weather aware as we head throughout the evening hours and be prepared to immediately seek shelter should your area be placed under a warning.
At this time there are currently no watches for the area.
