Storms & a Sticky Wednesday

Good morning and happy Wednesday! Summer is still holding strong this month with only 7 days under 80. It appears summer will be the winner of the month versus fall as we head into the remainder of this week. Taking a look at our highs for the month though just to get an idea, we started off with fall like temperatures as you may recall, with highs in the 70s. Then our first full week of September brought in temperatures into the 80s and even hit 91 in the first part of the week. Continuing that trend through the month we kept mainly under 90 for our highs, but above 70 to allow summer to take the lead. Believe it or not, our average high for the month is typically around 71-72, and we are well above that by ten degrees and more.

A round of showers and thunderstorms may enter our area as early as 6AM today, and these will move through the area at a decent pace. While severe threats don’t appear likely, a strong thunderstorm can’t be ruled out with threats consisting of heavy downpours and localized gusty winds. Likely though, these storms will be on a weakening trend as they continue further southeast through our area. These storms should press southeastward out of the area by  the noon hour.

Unfortunately another summer day is in store for us today. Highs expected back in the upper 80s. That won’t go unnoticed today as we have an increase in our dew points. Temperatures will feel like they are in the lower 90s as we head through our afternoon hours.

Another round of scattered and isolated showers could develop later in the evening hours as well depending on whether or not the front drops further south. Depending on that though, the area could pick up between 1-2 inches of rain by Thursday morning assuming we receive the heavy rainfall models are suggesting. Lows for the night will remain warm with temperatures near 66 with a chance of showers and thunderstorms ending overnight.

Taking a quick look at our five day outlook, humid conditions favor Wednesday and Thursday, and then removing some of that humidity as we head into the weekend. Friday appears to be a great day as well as Saturday. We bring rain chances back into the forecast Sunday, but with much cooler temperatures than Wednesday.
