After a beautiful Tuesday we are once again focusing attention to another enhanced severe weather risk for later today and especially during the overnight hours tonight.
This morning areas of showers and thunderstorms are currently ongoing to the south across portions of southern Iowa and western Illinois. A warm front is currently located to the south of the area and will progress northward as we head through the afternoon hours. The severe weather setup for today depends on where the front lays out for late this afternoon and evening. Areas along it and to the immediate north will have the highest risk of strong supercell thunderstorms with tornadoes and damaging straight-line winds.
All modes of severe weather remain possible…including damaging winds, large hail, very heavy rainfall and isolated tornadoes.
Make sure you have a way to receive warnings until the threat passes early Thursday morning.
