
Drone images captured by the Illinois Department of Transportation show the damage in Taylorville, IL from a tornado that struck on Saturday evening.
The National Weather Service survey team continued to assess the damage in the town of Taylorville, IL, just southeast of Springfield Monday. Their findings resulted in an EF-3 rating for the tornado that tore through the town Saturday evening leveling homes and businesses and injuring 22 people.
The survey team found damage consistent with an EF-3 tornado featuring winds of up to 155 miles per hour. The width of the path extended nearly half a mile long and the tornado traveled a total distance of 11.2 miles.
Another strong tornado was confirmed in Stonington, IL, rated an EF-2 with winds of 115 miles per hour traveling 8.9 miles.
This now marks the second largest December tornado outbreak on record for the state of Illinois. Remarkably no deaths have been reported.
