An Excessive Heat Warning continues onward today as highs in the 90s will create dangerous heat index levels near 100+ again this afternoon if we do not see any new storm activity during the morning or afternoon hours. The freshly fallen rain will make the humidity even worse today so if you must be outdoors make sure and exercise extreme caution. The heat will continue through Sunday until things cool back down by early next week.
Strong storms that moved through last evening caused quite a bit of wind damage across the area with several tree limbs and power lines down. These winds were associated with a gust front out ahead of the storms and in some cases gusts up to 50 MPH where observed.
Now that things have calmed down this morning we are looking at another hot and humid day ahead. There still remains a small chance for scattered storms at times so those that do see the storms will have cooler high temperatures. Those that do not can expect highs in the middle 90s and heat index values again approaching 110+ degrees.
Tonight storm chances remain on a scattered basis with another warm night ahead. Lows in the lower 70s.
The upcoming weekend still looks rather hot with periodic storm chances as we remain close to the active storm zone. Highs will be back in the 90s with heat index values still in the lower 100s at times.
Next week some relief is in sight especially Monday as a cold front finally pushes through the area and humidity levels drop off. Highs back in the middle 80s with sunshine can be expected for the first part of next week. Things turn active again with showers and thunderstorms back into the picture by the middle of next week.
