Flood Watch in effect until Thursday afternoon

Heavy rainfall this morning has led to areas of flooding, especially along several area creeks and streams.  The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch until Thursday afternoon for Lee and Whiteside Counties.

Doppler Radar estimates nearly an inch has fallen in parts of extreme Northeast Whiteside County and much of Lee County.

Additional rainfall is likely this afternoon and evening that will result in more flooding, including rises on the Rock River. Low lying fields and other areas will also be vulnerable to flooding, as the ground remains frozen and fully saturated allowing nearly all the rain to run off.

If you are traveling and come upon a flooded roadway, do not attempt to cross it. The road could be washed out underneath. Turn around.
