UPDATED: Flash Flood WATCH Through Friday

10:00AM FRI AUG 12 UPDATE:

A Flood WARNING has been issued for Whiteside county until 6:45p Friday. Area creeks and streams may rise significantly due to excess runoff from the recent heavy rains.

A Flash Flood WATCH remains in place for Lee county until midnight Saturday.

Remember, never cross a flooded roadway no matter how shallow the water may appear to be.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood WATCH for the entire area through Friday.

Areas of thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region during the late evening and overnight hours tonight into Friday. Above average moisture levels will be supportive of torrential rainfall with these storms, especially if they repeatedly move over the same areas.

Total rainfall accumulation of 3 to 5 inches total is possible by Friday morning. Heavy rainfall can cause flash flooding. Never cross a flooded roadway. Seek higher ground if you live near a creek or stream that could rise rapidly.

Our severe weather risk remains low overnight tonight through Friday though a few isolated stronger storms could produce damaging winds. No widespread severe weather is expected.
