An Excessive Heat WATCH is in effect for Lee County until 7pm Saturday
A Flash Flood WATCH is in effect for Whiteside County until 10am Thursday
Today begins a multi-day stretch of dangerous heat and humidity levels as temperatures soar into the 90s along with high levels of humidity. Heat index values will begin to approach 100-degrees by this afternoon and then push well into the lower 100s for the remainder of the week.
Small chances for showers and storms exist later this afternoon and into the evening hours. There will be enough instability for a few storms to produce strong winds and heavy rainfall. Should storms repeat and move over the same areas this evening and overnight, flash flooding will become likely. Frequent lightning will also be likely with these storms. We’ll continue to monitor this threat through the afternoon.
Actual high temperatures could very well reach or surpass 100° on Friday and even Saturday as heat index values approach 115°. If you must be outdoors for any prolonged period of time, make sure and take frequent breaks in the shade and remain hydrated with plenty of water.
