Excessive Heat WARNING Through Saturday Evening

An Excessive Heat WARNING has been issued for Lee and Whiteside Counties through Saturday evening.

High levels of moisture combined with hot temperatures well into the 90s Friday afternoon creating heat index values up to 115 in some areas. Peak heat index values are expected to be felt between noon and 6pm. Strenuous outdoor activities should be avoided during this time. If you must be outdoors, make sure and wear light-weight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Take frequent breaks in the shade and A/C. Make sure and check on the elderly and limit your pets outdoor activities, too!

Do not leave pets or individuals in vehicles unattended, even with the windows down. Temperatures can quickly climb to dangerous levels inside vehicles.

Dry conditions are expected as a front lies well to the north of the area. Winds out of the south will provide very little in the way of relief from the heat.

Hot and humid conditions will continue into the weekend with a growing chance for showers and thunderstorms by Sunday afternoon and evening. We’ll see a brief break in the heat for Monday before temperatures warm once again for Independence Day.
