UPDATED: Excessive Heat and Active Thunderstorms Wednesday

3:00PM  UPDATE – A Flash Flood WATCH has been issued for Lee and Whiteside counties until 2pm Thursday. Heavy rain producing thunderstorms are possible later this evening into the overnight hours.

The worst of the heat and humidity so far this summer season will combine forces by this afternoon pushing heat index values well into the lower 100s for some areas, especially if we can break out into some sunshine at any point. A heat advisory has been issued for Whiteside county until 8pm this evening for heat index values that could approach 105°.

Areas of scattered showers and thunderstorms will be found this morning before we see a temporary break into the early afternoon hours. With a front in the area another round of showers and thunderstorms is likely tonight.

A slight risk of severe storms is currently forecast with the main threats being large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall. It appears another cluster of thunderstorms will likely develop out in central/eastern Iowa later this evening and push eastward overnight. Repeated storm activity could potentially cause some flash flooding issues so stay alert if you live in a flood prone area.

More updates regarding the severe threat throughout the day if warranted.
