We have made it through another brutally cold night with record breaking lows. Temperatures this morning will continue to feel quite frigid with “feels like” temperatures between -35 and -40 degrees. However, by this afternoon and evening that will become more bearable. Highs today right around 1 degree by late this afternoon. Starting with mostly sunny conditions, we’ll see clouds move in later this morning as a clipper system is set to move through this afternoon and evening hours. A quick event overall that will bring minor accumulations to our area. Temperatures tonight will settle around -3 degrees with “feels like” temperatures as low as -15 degrees.
A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 12PM Thursday to 12AM Friday.
A slight shift southeastward with the clipper system is showing up across model guidance this morning. For that reason we have shifted our overall totals to the south. Expect to receive at least 1.0 inches by the end of this system for the entire area. Otherwise we will see 1-3 inches for the majority of Whiteside county and all of Lee county. A few isolate spots of higher amounts could be possible in the southwestern corner of Whiteside of up to 4.0 inches. Neighboring counties to our north should expect to see a half an inch at minimum, with a possible range of 1-3 inches as well. Our neighboring counties to the south may see a little more snow. We have bumped their snowfall totals up to 2-4 inches. 4.0″ inches will be on the higher end.
Snow is expected to begin after 12:00PM west to east. Light and fluffy snow will fall from this clipper. Blowing and/or drifting of snow is not to be an issue from this as our winds will not be strong enough to impact the roads with this threat. However, with the road conditions the way they have been, expect hazardous travel by the evening commute. Rural roads that are partially snow covered from previous snowfalls will become very hazardous quite rapidly.
